Description
Phantom Ship Island Sunset - Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
Just a few minutes before the sun set over Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, the sun burst through the trees.
Seven different trees live on Phantom Ship, an island in Crater Lake. There are also colonies of violet green swallows, and several varieties of wildflowers and lichens living there.
At over 1900 feet, Crater Lake is the deepest lake in North America. It was formed around 7,700 years ago by the collapse of the volcano Mount Mazama. It has no inlet or outlet, and is fed by rain and snow.
